Before you make your move to the UK, here are a few tips for moving to the UK.

Getting a UK Visa

If you plan to study or work in the UK, you will need a visa. There are different UK visa types depending on what you are traveling to the UK for. You can get a short-term study visa, general student visa or work visa.

Studying in the UK

If you are looking at studying in the UK you will need to apply to your selected universities. All applications to universities must be made through UCAS.

You will need to apply and be accepted prior to entry into the UK as you will need your acceptance details along with additional paperwork to get your student visa.

Working in the UK

There are over 3.5 million non-UK nationals working in the UK according to the Office for National Statistics.

In order to work in the UK you will need a sponsor. It is recommended that you search online for jobs well in advance in order to secure interviews and sponsorship early on.

Getting set up in the UK

Before you move to the UK, you can open an international bank account with some banks. Your current bank may also have banking relationships that will allow you to set up a foreign account so that you are prepared for when you land in the UK.

You’ll also need to organize your accommodation. If you are traveling to the UK to study, you can speak to the university you are going to attend to get assistance in finding accommodation.

If you are moving to the UK for work, your workplace may be able to assist or you can look at websites such as Zoopla and RightMove to look for rental properties.
